August 2021: Adrienne Ward
This month, we’re shining our Volunteer Spotlight on Adrienne Ward!
Adrienne Ward is celebrating 2 years of Advocacy with CASA of Cecil County this summer. Since starting with us in the summer of 2019, and then being assigned her first case the following December, she has worked diligently with the same family. Her case is unique, as the family is split between 3 Advocates. Because of this, Adrienne has come to know and work with Susan Weed and Pam Space, the other two Advocates assigned to this family. CASA of Cecil County is proud to have an awesome trio working hard to advocate for these siblings!
Adrienne grew up outside of Philadelphia in Delaware County. Just 3 years ago, she moved with her family to Cecil County, and now calls North East her home. With two older kids who are moved out of the home, and one younger son left, she wanted something to fill her time when he’s not home. Adrienne says she has always thought about becoming a Foster Parent, but was never able to make the pieces fall together for that. While working for M&T Bank in Wilmington, she heard about CASA through a co-worker, who was an Advocate for their local CASA Chapter. When Adrienne moved and began working in Elkton, she passed by our CASA office, and decided there was no time like the present. She reached out to us and signed up for our training class. The rest is history!
In her spare time, Adrienne and her husband know how to have fun. They enjoy riding their motorcycles, cooking on her Blackstone, kickboxing, travelling, attending concerts, and cheering for the Philadelphia Sports teams. She said her favorite vacation so far has been their trip to Cancun, but that it’s hard to narrow down a favorite concert.
When asked what advice she has for anyone considering becoming an Advocate, she says “Just do it. It gives you a sense of joy, it really makes you feel good when you see the children’s faces light up!”
We couldn’t agree more, Adrienne! Thank you for all your hard work!
