Transitional Housing

Did you know a child can stay in foster care until they’re 21 years old if they meet specific criteria? Because of this, CASA of Cecil County often finds that some of our older foster youth have a unique need: housing. Many times, the older youths will age out and have nowhere to go. They hit the maximum age limit for foster care and are expected to immediately integrate into society, without any help from anyone else. Without a stable home in their life, these youths have never had the opportunity to learn the basic life skills that others take for granted. To become productive members of our community and ensure the cycle is broken, these youths need an opportunity to learn these valuable life lessons.

Our Transitional Housing Program aims to do just that.

By providing a place for these older youths who are about to age out to live, we can ensure they are in a safe and stable environment that gives them the opportunity to succeed as adults. Our Transitional Housing program not only puts a roof over their heads, but will provide lessons that teach them how to manage a budget, helps them set and manage their own goals, provides them resume building and employment search services, and helps them navigate the confusing paths of higher education.

As of 2021, this program has not yet been implemented. CASA of Cecil County has been saving the money raised from our annual Festival of Trees, which will allow us to ensure the program is properly funded when it starts. Our goal for 2022 is to kick off this program. Any community member who would like to help, contact us today at 410-996-3025. Check this section again for updates!
